makai means “toward the sea.”
To us, the sea represents the same qualities we hope to capture in every piece we create- fluid movement, softness and quiet strength.
makai was created with one simple idea in mind: to make everyday pieces feel anything but ordinary.
Never loud, yet impossible to ignore.
I'm Maya Aviram, a content creator and creative director with a lifelong passion for fashion. Over the years, I've had the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading brands, creating campaigns, developing creative concepts, and spending countless hours studying collections, fabrics and design.
Long before makai, I was collecting vintage fashion. I spent years searching for rare, beautifully made pieces that felt unique, timeless and impossible to replace. I even ran my own vintage store, where I learned that the pieces people truly fall in love with are rarely the loudest ones- they're the ones that feel effortless, yet unforgettable.
Over time, I realized I was always searching for the same feeling.
Clothes that felt special enough to make you stop for a second, yet natural enough to become part of your everyday wardrobe.
When I couldn't find enough of them, I decided to create them.
Every makai piece is designed to be worn in different ways and interpreted differently by every woman. The same piece can feel completely different depending on who wears it- and that's exactly the point.
To me, great design goes beyond the garment itself.
It's about how it makes you feel the moment you put it on.
Every makai collection is designed and produced in Israel in intentionally limited quantities.
Producing locally allows us to stay closely involved in every stage of the process- from the first sample to the final stitch. It gives us the freedom to refine every detail, work with trusted local professionals, maintain the highest quality standards, and create thoughtfully rather than produce endlessly.
For us, local production isn't just about where our garments are made. It's about building something responsibly, supporting local craftsmanship, and creating fewer, better pieces that are meant to stay in your wardrobe for years.
created for moments, not seasons.
